A training workshop was held for elementary stage teachers at the Ahliyyah College Schools – Taybeh – Birzeit, delivered by specialist in diagnosing and treating learning disabilities, Kafaieh Zaben/Beidoun, under the title:
“Accommodations and Modifications in Education and Learning Disabilities”,
conducted over two consecutive days.
The workshop covered the following main themes:
Accommodations: Adjustments made to the classroom environment, teaching methods, or exam timing, ensuring equal opportunities for all students without changing the core curriculum.
Modifications: Changes to the content of the material or the level of learning objectives to match students’ abilities and support their progress according to their potential.
Learning Disabilities: Definitions and types (auditory, visual, sensory-motor, etc.), how to identify them in primary classrooms, and their impact on students’ academic performance and behavior.
Individualized Plans: Mechanisms for teachers, counselors, and school administration to design tailored plans that meet students’ special needs and ensure the inclusion of every learner in the educational process.
Practical Training: Through hands-on activities, role-playing, classroom scenario simulations, and videos highlighting the challenges faced by students with learning difficulties.
The workshop emphasized that providing accommodations is a right guaranteed by society and its institutions. They are not privileges, but essential supports that enable students to adapt and achieve academic growth.
This training aimed to raise teachers’ awareness and equip them with practical strategies to create an inclusive learning environment that respects individual differences and ensures the success of all students.
