As part of the “Teachers Without Borders” project, and within the framework of enhancing classroom practices to meet the diverse needs of students, a two-day training workshop was held for the teachers of the Latin Patriarchate School – Jifna with learning difficulties specialist Kafaieh Baydoun.
The training addressed several key topics, all aiming to raise teachers’ awareness of how to distinguish between learning difficulties, learning disabilities, and slow learning. The following areas were discussed:
- Understanding the terminology and basic differences between learning difficulties, educational disabilities, developmental/perceptual learning disabilities, and slow learning.
- Identifying indicators of learning difficulties or disabilities, including signs of dyslexia and dysgraphia, as well as visual, auditory, and sensory-motor processing challenges, in addition to recognizing indicators of slow learning across different subjects.
- Recognizing signs of hyperactivity and lack of concentration among students, exploring the biological and psychological causes behind them, and addressing the challenges these children face.
- Practical teaching strategies and applications that teachers can use to support students based on their different needs and to develop approaches that help them overcome these challenges.
Through these efforts, the Latin Patriarchate Schools continue to empower teachers to effectively address diversity in the classroom, thereby contributing to the improvement of the quality of education offered to all students.
